Some physical changes I've experienced so far:
- Morning Sickness: (which should actually be called all day sickness). During my first trimester, I was vomiting at least once a day and usually at night.
- Boogers & Bloody Nose: (sorry!) I have so much junk in my nose....maybe West LA is super dry?? We bought a humidifier, but man they require such maintenance and need to be cleaned daily..who has time for that?
- Bladder Control: Pregnant women have to pee ALL the time. I probably use the toilet up to a few times a hour. Thanks to my gestational diabetes, I get super thirsty at night which means I have to get up to pee even more than "normal" preggo women.
- Cramps: not the menstrual kind, but if I'm on my feet for too long, I start getting pelvic cramps which feels like something is pushing down on my cervix (eeks!). I've also been experiencing and waking up to charley horse (muscle spams) and literally screaming. Usually when the hubs is around, he helps me, but when he's not, I'm on my own :(. I talked to my OB about it and she says I am not taking in enough potassium and calcium.
- Growing Body Parts: Yup, everything gets bigger. Unfortunately, you can't pick and choose..with the growing belly comes bigger boobs, bigger thighs (my thighs touch! such a weird feeling), bigger arms, bigger ass??
- Body Temperature: I've always been really cold, but during this pregnancy, I feel like I am always wearing a layer of fur or something!
And some lifestyle changes:
In addition to having to give up regular pregnant woman stuff like alcohol, sashimi, raw and cured food yums, I've had to put a temporary/permanent hold on:
- Traveling: I've been "stuck" in LA since January and will be here for prob awhile after baby j's arrival. I've been itching to go somewhere especially with summer around the corner, but I know if I dare to go anywhere..Karma is gonna get me and I'll probabaly end up delivering wherever I may be.
- Social Events: I've missed and will miss out on some of my close friends' weddings, and milestone events. However, thank you to social media, I can live vicariously through the videos and pictures and enjoy the joy and memories that were shared!! (My social calendar for the Fall is going to come into full effect soon!!)
- Work: I've entered by fifth year of teaching this fall already (time really flies!) and had to leave mid year due to my condition. Teaching and working with children has really been my heart, passion, and headaches and I would not have chosen a different career path. We have decided thatt I will be a SAHM (stay at home mommy) for the next few years to take care of our little boy while Jon wraps up his residency (2+ years left!) and finish fellowship (1 year!).
Cheers to balancing and managing the many more changes to come (in both my life and yours!) <clunk>

30 weeks tomorrow!
Nine weeks left to term! Keep talking to baby. Ellie definitely recognized Emily's voice very early on. Remember, they are blind for a while when they are born… scent and sound are way more impressionable in the early days.
ReplyDeletethanks how! :)
