Now, I am seeing two doctors. I see my regular OB, Dr. Amersi as well as Dr. Tabsh who is one of the best high risk pregnancy doctors in the nation.
I have been anticipating our third visit to Dr. Tabsh as this was going to be such a important one to determine which paths we would have to take. So important that Mama Haw came along to make sure she reported everything to Mama Dorng. During our visit, I learned not only did my cervix shortened to 2.3 cm, it was also very soft/weak. Anything under 2.5 cm is alarming. I was praying that being on bed rest helped lengthen my cervix (yes! that can really happen) and I would be able to resume my already limited everyday activities.
After the examination, he asked us to go into his office to chat. Crap! Why are we going into his office..it feels so serious and formal..and so my emotions began.
He gave us four options:
1) Begin taking Progesterone which is a steroid that can be taken vaginally to help strengthen the cervix muscles
2) Insert a Pessary
3) Terminate the pregnancy (WHAT?!?!!)
4) Cervical Surgery (cerclage) to prevent preterm labor
We needed to make a decision ASAP to prevent my cervix from shortening anymore. He recommended that we go ahead with the surgery while taking the Progesterone shots. I trust Dr. Tabsh a million % so we went ahead with what he believes will be best for the baby. I was flooded in tears because everything changed within minutes. This was a Monday evening and I will be going in for Surgery on Thursday evening.
