Week 38 (Part 1): WTF, Labor

FFL = False Fake Labor (Acronym created by yours truly) Will try to keep it PG

Early Monday morning 1:30am, we went to the hospital. I had been having blurry vision all day and remembered reading on my discharge papers that it could be a symptom of preeclampsia. After debating back and forth, I decided that we should go (poor Jon had to go to work at 6am) because after all we've been through, why risk something so close to the end of this pregnancy, right?

Anyways, we check in and they check my blood pressure (normal!) and check my urine for protein (negative and normal!) so they ruled out preeclampsia. WHEW! However, the nurse did a pelvic exam on me and noticed I was 2 cm dilated. She asked me to walk the hospital floor for an hour to see if I would dilate any more. So we walk at like 2:30 am in the morning on the 3rd floor of the hospital. The best part of this walk? Hearing the newborn babies cry in the postpartum rooms and hearing women having contractions HAHA
Taking a break mid walk in the wee hours at 38+ weeks.
So swollen look at my crazy crappy ankles!

After almost an hour long of walking, the nurse re-checks my cervix and guess what? I dilated up to 4 cm which means they have officially admitted me into the labor room and the laboring process has begun. We went from a triage room to a labor room and got hooked up with not only the biggest room (Room 1306)  but also a view of the ocean :) Thanks to Jon for being in medicine and having some medical connection (muah!) haha.

We start making phone calls. Well, I called my mom at 3:30am to let her know that I have started the labor. My mom doesn't sleep so I didn't feel bad for waking her up. Lo and behold she was ready to make the drive down from Saratoga. Jon was going to make the calls at a more reasonable hour aka 6 am. I have never seen Jon so happy. He was SO So ready to meet baby J. He went home to pick up and pack up our hospital bag.

Fast forward 5 hours, they recheck my cervix and my damn cervix has been stalling at 4 cm. Why do you decide to become competent now?!?

Since there was not much action going on, we decided to go home to continue the laboring process there. Here I am, 24 hours later, still waiting waiting and waiting...Of course, my delivery process ain't gonna be easy..

Jon got quite settled in. It's hard work being the partner.

My view from my labor bed. Watching the sunrise in Santa Monica. Just perfect. Room 1306, I'm coming back for you!
